Performance Testing Sub-Committee (PTS)
Terms of Reference
Performance Testing Sub-committee (PTS) is a subcommittee of the ATC dealing with issues relating to lubricant quality, transport and the environment impacting the lubricant additives business.
The committee reviews transport and lubricant developments within Europe and assesses current and proposed specifications and legislation, and provides technical feedback and guidance to other industry associations.
Objectives
Continue to promote proof of performance tests that add significant value, ensure that Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), i.e. car and/or truck producers and end user needs are fully achieved and reflect the field performance of lubricants.
Advocate for ATC's position that lubricant specifications should be designed around required performance levels, rather than dictating composition of lubricants.
Represent ATC in discussions with ACEA (Association Européenne des Constructeurs Automobiles, or European Automotive Manufacturers Association), with the aim of agreeing future ACEA sequences that are a technically sound, cost-effective way to provide oils meeting OEM, oil marketer and consumer needs. The PTS also hold discussions with ATIEL (the Technical Association of the European Lubricants Industry).
Work with industry partners to align Light-Duty & Heavy-Duty ACEA groups and arrange timing of upgrade to coincide with appropriate industry needs.
Key Recent Achievements
Completion of a data-gathering exercise to help ACEA Light-Duty group in the definition of a meaningful limit for the JASO M366 Fuel Economy test in the ACEA C7-23 category.
Assisting ACEA Heavy-Duty group with updates on the HD engine oil sequences to improve the clarity of the document (table and footnotes) and to maximize the alignment with API (North American) sequences.
ATC-PTS contributes to maintaining or enhancing the clarity of the document, thus supporting end users in their choice of a correct lubricant.
